It's increasingly clear that to improve the population’s diet we need to make it easier for everyone to eat healthily and more sustainably regardless of how much money or time people have, where they live or how health-conscious they are. We must ensure healthier and more sustainable food is easily available, accessible and affordable, and reformulation to improve nutritional content may be part of the solution.

As well as reducing intakes of saturated fat, salt and sugars we need to increase positive ingredients like wholegrains or vegetables and positive nutrients like fibre (for gut health and a healthy gut microbiome) and plant-based proteins (to be more sustainable). But what can we realistically achieve through reformulation without compromising on taste, convenience, satiety or cost?

This British Nutrition Foundation webinar will take a look at the need for reformulation from a public health perspective concentrating on 2 key areas: fibre and plant-based proteins that may help to contribute to the adoption of healthier and more sustainable food choices in the future.
